V. [u]nf_5

2024–present [ongoing]

V.[u]nf_5 is developing a counter-forensic field kit and archive system in relation to the repeated searches carried out by Las Rastreadoras de El Fuerte in and around Los Mochis, Sinaloa. The project grows from earlier phases of Vis.[un]necessary force, especially V.[u]nf_3 and V.[u]nf_4, and from the need to create a bespoke tool shaped by the collective’s own search practice rather than adapt a generic solution designed for other contexts.

The project is being built around head-mounted cameras, geolocated files, download and storage routines, collective review, and the gradual organisation of an archive from the images and recordings gathered during each outing. Its function is practical and affective: to become part of the collective’s own processes of recording, reviewing, and preserving material produced in the field.

V.[u]nf_5 is being developed through six inter-connected processes: data gathering, archiving, workshops, collective viewing, narrative work, and technological appropriation.

Within a transitional justice frame, V.[u]nf_5 contributes to truth-finding, memory, and future accountability by keeping geolocated records of the searches organised and usable over time.
